Over the cliff

The Republican Party is in a nervous sweat. Here is Bush going to Europe, hat in hand, asking for help (troops and money) from the friends that he insulted. This is the one that said he would never spread our troops too thin.

Then there is Vice-President Cheney who heads up our Federal Energy Commission which is public business which he refuses to release until after the election. When questioned about it in the Senate, he went into a rage and used some language that The Union would not print.

At home we have [Nevada County Republican chair Tony] Gilchrease who hijacked the superintendents office because a meeting had been scheduled that he did not like. Then there is [former county supervisor Drew] Bedwell who wanted to appoint his choice for the clerk-recorder position rather than use an agreed-upon plan for the selection, and a majority voted with him.

These people would follow the party line right over a cliff.

Editor’s note: Cheney in 2001 headed a Bush administration energy policy task force, not the Federal Energy Commission. Cheney’s expletive on the Senate floor had to do with a senator’s criticism of Cheney’s former employer, Halliburton Co.
