Outrageous coverage

I am writing in response to the outrageous coverage that has been written regarding the disappearance of Jim Smith. I am the ex-wife of Jim Smith and we have a 9-year-old son. Unfortunately, due to your coverage, my son has been submitted to unwarranted questions at his school by his classmates.

I am absolutely astounded that The Union has done three separate articles on this, when Scott Thorpe, a murderer, didn’t even get this kind of coverage.

The coverage of this incident has been devastating to me as a mother, but most importantly to my 9-year-old son. He heard from fellow classmates that his dad had shot himself. Now, did anyone take into consideration that possibly we weren’t going to discuss these exact details with my son? This is a tragic and traumatic event and now, due to your coverage, is even worse.

I can only hope that if you have similar incidents in the future, you will handle your coverage more cautiously. My son and I will do our best to live a normal life now that nearly the whole town of Grass Valley, Nevada City and surrounding communities know about this incident.
