Our help needed

Who are “the homeless?” They’re just people who’ve lost their home for any number of reasons. For instance, the breadwinner in the family loses his/her job or business, and the bills can’t be paid. What about families broken up due to death or divorce? Then there are the families that have experienced a sudden dire illness and whatever monies they had went toward medical bills. Not all of us can fall back on our extended families for help.

There are so many tragedies that can take away a person’s place in society. Very often, homelessness is what happens when events occur beyond our control.

To those who fear “the homeless” and condemn those less fortunate, I say, “Walk a mile in their shoes.” Smug, uninformed preconceptions help no one, least of all, the needy.
