Other voices: Source of information clarified

The Nevada County Republican Central Committee and the Nevada County Republican Women Federated are political organizations. Their goals are primarily to promote Republican values, help get Republicans elected to public office and to register voters.

Frequently there is more than one Republican running for the same office, and that can cause conflicts. In the case of multiple Republican candidates, it is not our goal to run individual campaigns or to sway voters one way or the other as to whom to vote for. It is our goal to give all Republican candidates access to our members and allow the individual members to make up their own minds on whom they will or will not vote for.

Recently, a letter of support for one Republican candidate over another for the office of state assembly was released and has received a lot of press. We have jointly been fielding many irate complaints from our members and other Republicans, some outside of the county, objecting to this letter and the press that it generated.

Unfortunately it is a common perception that the letter is an endorsement from the NCRCC. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is the opinion of three people, not the endorsement from the NCRCC or it’s chairman.

We hope this clarifies the issue. Free speech is a cherished Republican value, and we don’t want to prevent people from expressing their opinions but people have the right to understand where the source of the information is coming from.

Bill Nuharth is chairman of the Nevada County Republican Central Committee.

Maxine Robinson is president of the Nevada County Republican Woman Federated.
