NSJ Methodists celebrating Easter

Several worship services will be offered and/or participated in by the North San Juan United Methodist Church during Easter Week.

A Maundy (Holy) Thursday service is tonight at 8:30 p.m. The service will include the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper and a ritual of hand-washing – symbolic of Jesus washing his disciples’ feet.

Good Friday will be celebrated at noon at St. John’s Catholic Church. The ecumenical service led by the Rev. Paul Guffin of the North Gold Circuit United Methodist Churches and the Rev. Godwin Xavier of Immaculate Conception Catholic parish. After the service, everyone is invited to stay for a soup lunch.

Easter Sunday celebrations will begin with a sunrise service at 6 a.m. at the Convict Flat Picnic Area. (In case of inclement weather, th e service will be held at the Downieville United Methodist Church.) The theme is “Easter Morning Rock & Roll,” based on Matthew 28:1-10. People are invited to bring breakfast food to share.

An Easter celebration will also be held during the regular worship time of 8:45 a.m. at the North San Juan United Methodist Church. The Rev. Guffin will preach on “The Easter Stone,” based on Matthew 27:57-60 and 28:1-2.
