No respect for Aanestad

With almost a hundred other Nevada Countians, I went to Sacramento to lobby for the bipartisan Sierra Nevada Conservancy bill. Because each side had compromised to make this conservancy a reality and Gov. Schwarzenegger had promised it in his campaign, we were optimistic of its passing.

We divided into teams to visit legislators but joined as a large group to meet with our local representative. However, Sam Aanestad didn’t have the decency or courage to show up. Instead, he sent a young woman employee to represent him. When asked the whereabouts of the chief of staff, the answer was, “Brett’s too busy.” Brett was later spotted sitting with his feet up on his desk eating potato chips.

Dr. Aanestad doesn’t seem to know that he represents all of the Grass Valley/Nevada City populations – Democrat, Republican, Independent, Libertarian, conservative, liberal and moderate. Even if he doesn’t agree on issues, he can partake in the discussion. It’s his duty.

He was one of the 14 state representatives who voted against this legislation, which will bring millions of dollars in grants and loans to our area to fund water quality and cultural, archaeological, tribal and historical nonprofits. His cowardly approach to politics lost our respect.
