Night light is serious

Regarding the article “Light leads to dispute” on Aug. 18, I suggest that Supervisors Sue Horne and Robin Sutherland take a closer look at the light-at-night issue.

Street lights, porch lights, skyscraper lights, cell-tower lights, all lights at night are having devastating consequences on night-migrating birds, turtle hatchlings, seabird fledglings, nocturnal mammals and amphibians, and amateur and professional stargazers. This issue goes way beyond one person’s preference for a darker night than another’s.

I’d be happy to provide the supervisors with a copy of the literature review I’m currently conducting on this issue. There are reasonable and effective solutions to protect the elderly and disabled and to maintain public safety. A local ordinance on this issue is well-justified.
