NID candidates invited to forum

The League of Women Voters of Western Nevada County has invited all candidates for the Nevada Irrigation District board of directors to be questioned by local media representatives and residents tonight in Penn Valley.

The forum will be held at the Penn Valley fire station, at Spenceville Road and Penn Valley Drive, at 7 p.m. Candidates for the district’s contested Division 5 seat include Nick Wilcox, George Leipzig and John Meeks.

The event is the third in a series of forums the League has planned to help voters be more informed for the Nov. 2 election. The League is nonpartisan and each forum is moderated by League President Dottie Schmidt. Questions will be posed by representatives from The Union, KVMR, KNCO and YubaNet. Audience members will also have a chance to ask questions.

On Oct. 6, the League hosts a forum with candidates seeking seats on the Sierra Joint Community College District, the Nevada Joint Union High School District, and the Nevada County Board of Education.

Following the series on candidates, the League will host a series to educate voters about the different measures on the Nov. 2 ballot.
