News the paper left out

When I picked up the March 11 Grass Valley Union newspaper I was appalled at the lack of any news or pictures of the Sept. 11 attack in New York on the front page.

It reminded me of when I called the newspaper and talked to an editor about the New York Firefighters Disaster Relief Fund, saying to him how proud our country is of all our firefighters and especially those in New York. I explained to him that a world-renowned artist (his painting of Venice is in the Kensington Palace, England) who lived in Grass Valley came back from Europe and offered 12 of his Twin Towers signed prints to bring in money for that disaster. All prints were spoken for and the total monies were sent to New York Firefighters relief fund. This editor told me he was not interested in any of that and hung up on me. Just what kind of people do we have running our local Union newspaper? Is it because you did not have any person in New York that you loved? The Grass Valley Union newspaper did not put the attack of Pearl Harbor on the front page either. Just what country do you come from?

It is wonderful to be a senior who has all the memories of what it is and how it feels to be a proud American living in the greatest country (our U.S.A).

For some people, they have to have someone they love killed or injured before they get pride of country.
