New Sierra plan a giveaway

The 2001 Sierra Nevada Framework was a remarkable plan. This was a plan developed by the Forest Service that was supported by conservation groups, scientists, Gov. Schwarzenegger, Attorney General Lockyer, and the public. While Mr. Thompson points out that 200 objections were filed against the 2001 plan, it is not the most ever. He fails to mention or is unaware that more than 6,000 appeals of the 2004 plan were filed. That is the most ever.

Furthermore, the 2001 plan was originally approved by Mark Rey during the Bush administration. Surprisingly, shortly after the affirmation of the plan, the Forest Service, without citing any new information, decided the 2001 plan needed changing.

The 2004 plan seems to me as a giveaway to big timber interests while ignoring the interests of people who live near the forests. People like us! The Forest Service should focus timber activities near communities where the danger of fire is the most relevant. The 2001 plan is the best plan for reducing the fire risk while protecting forest species at the same time.
