Neighbor fuss: Both legs shot

A man was shot in both legs Monday afternoon after an altercation with a neighbor.

Richard F. Everton, 35, was reportedly shot by neighbor Steven C. Fowler, 34, at 18250 Traighli Lane, south of Grass Valley. According to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office, Fowler called authorities and reported the shooting after it occurred.

Everton was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital after 2 p.m. with wounds to both legs and then transported by ground ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Sheriff Keith Royal said a 12-gauge shotgun believed to be the weapon used in the shooting was confiscated, but Fowler had not been arrested by 5 p.m. because the department was trying to determine what led to the shooting.
