Narrow agenda

A recent Other Voices promoted the Peace Center rally in Nevada City, which to some may be gratifying and to others a travesty. We all have the right to voice our opinions and should listen respectfully to many diverse views on any topic, but also have the right to refute ideas that we believe are misleading or lack facts.

The spokesperson in this article showed her colors by an attack on the administration and Bush, as well as the Patriot Act (“Americans are being spied on”) and her reference to neo-conservatives. It was a shame to make this a political rampage.

To indicate that we have learned something from recent events in Bolivia and Venezuela is a bit misleading. Countries in that part of the world have confiscated lands and foreign investments only to go back to more open administrations after dictatorships failed.

The neo-liberals, if they gain the political advantage, can advance their own agenda, but it seems to me that both parties supported the Iraq War and the Patriot Act. The missing element is an agenda by the neo-liberal element of anything other than we hate Bush.
