Sandy Schmidt of Grass Valley gives her top 10 reasons to shop at Nevada County thrift shops:

1. It’s the “ultimate” of treasure hunts.

2. A little paint and you have something completely new. Ever watch “Trading Spaces”?

3. Teach the kids about financial responsibility. Give them a few dollars and see how many treasures they can get, versus the mega toy stores.

4. “Thrifting” is a great bonding thing for women.

5. Recycling at its finest!

6. No need to break in those tennies. Jeans, either!

7. Just starting out or need a coffee maker? This is the place to go!

8. It’s not how much you spend, it’s how much you save!

9. It makes you feel good to help out your local charities.

10. As women, we have a sworn duty to search out bargains. It’s in “the” handbook.

Sandy Schmidt runs the Women of Worth Gift and Thrift Shop, 13467 Colfax Highway.
