Mosquito concerns

I have read several articles about mosquitoes and West Nile virus. There is always good information about how to protect oneself. There is, however, one bit of information that isn’t included:

How far does a mosquito range: 100 feet? 100 yards? 1,000 yards? More?

How far away from my house must I search for mosquito breeding areas? (Same question!)

I have not less than two “ponds” close to my house. How do I encourage my neighbors to treat their ponds to keep the mosquitoes under control?

Reflection: I remember when I was stationed in Thailand in the mid ’70s. Every few weeks “mosquito abatement” would drive a huge sprayer around the compounds spraying what smelled like kerosene in the air around and on everything. We also needed to sleep under a mosquito net.

Does anyone know where to purchase really large mosquito netting, like yard size?
