More questions

In a June 4 “Other Voices,” I asked why our country is joined at the hip with the Israeli government. I expressed my admiration for the Jewish people in general, but wondered about this policy.

Two rabbis have labeled me anti-Semitic, and my questions brought some letters too vitriolic to print here.

Now I have more questions:

Tell me your side of the 1948 massacre at Deir Yassin, in which Israeli soldiers slaughtered defenseless men, women and children and spurred an exodus of Arab refugees into the desert.

Tell me about the 1967 Israeli attack on the American spy ship, USS Liberty, killing 34 sailors and wounding 170. If the attackers were Egyptian, would we have accepted their apologies?

Tell me why Israeli soldiers crushed 23-year-old Rachel Corrie, an American peace activist standing in front of a Palestinian doctor’s home slated for destruction by a bulldozer. Why did the driver back over her body?

Tell me why a people who endured the horrors of the ghetto in Nazi Germany now create one for Palestinians with their “Apartheid Wall.”

Tell me why this country donates $10 million a day to Israel.

And thanks for not bulldozing my home.
