The overwhelming amount of media coverage in the United States is pro-Israel, and even more importantly, the United States supplies billions of dollars in weapons to Israel, which the country uses to maintain its occupation of Palestine.

Speaking of reporting lies, it is regularly reported that Arafat walked away from a “great deal” a Camp David, and so therefore the current invasion of the West Bank and Gaza is his fault.

In speaking with a former legal representative of the Palestinians (Prof. Francis Boyle, University of Illinois) this is the big lie!

The “deal” would have lead to permanent Israeli settlements carving up Palestinian land into isolated “Bantu stands,” akin to what was done to blacks in the former South Africa.

Hardly a great deal if you happen to be a Palestinian!

Yes, it’s terrible what’s happening in Israel.

And it’s terrible what’s happening in the West Bank and Gaza.

And while it is certainly understandable, one has to question the morality of a statement saying to the effect that because of the Holocaust, Israel has the right to do whatever it wants to the Palestinians.

Yes, Israel has a right to defend itself, but the Palestinians have an equal right to freedom from occupation.

Maybe if Arafat and Sharon were forced to publicly pronounce that in Arabic, Hebrew and English, we’d be on our way to a peaceful end to this ongoing mess.
