Money well spent

As Nevada County property owners and residents, we are extremely concerned about a quick and professional response to fires, automobile accidents and medical emergencies.

We currently pay $59 a year for these services from the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District. They are proposing an increase to $89, or $30 additional dollars a year. That works out to be an additional $2.50 a month. Even for those going from $20 a year to $89 year, it is still only an additional $5.75 a month.

We are usually not in favor of increased assessments or taxes. However, according to the information received by mail from the fire district, the proceeds from this assessment will be spent on personnel. This is money well-spent to ensure additional firefighters and quicker response times. And, this is a small price to pay compared to what might happen if we are faced with insufficient staff to handle a major fire or emergency or what we might have to spend in increased property insurance if we are left with the alternative – reduced emergency coverage.
