Molly Ivins goes too far

Normally, I read Molly Ivins’ column and disagree with most of what she says. Her views, while more often than not contrary to mine, are nevertheless her opinions.

However, in her Dec. 11 column she goes too far and, while deploring Kissinger’s lying, tells her own fabrications and innuendo. She mocks those in our government who dare speak the facts about Islam.

“Fight and slay the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every strategy of war.” Koran, Sura 9:5. “Prophet, make war on unbelievers and hypocrites, and deal rigorously with them. Koran, Sura 9:73. “These are from the Koran. In contrast, here are the words of Jesus: “For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” Luke, 9:56. “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” John, 15:12.

Surely, men have committed heinous acts, supposedly in the name of Christianity, but those don’t negate Christ’s teachings any more than say, police brutality negates the law. The teachings of the Koran, not just Islamic actions, are violent. The teachings of the New Testament are of love, mercy, and grace.
