Mining a part of us |

Mining a part of us

I can’t believe it’s gone. I grew up looking at the Del Oro Theater mural. As someone who has lived her entire life in Grass Valley, I am disappointed at the fact that they painted over the Del Oro mural. That mural showed what Grass Valley was truly about: Gold mining.

My family has been in Grass Valley for more than 100 years and were miners at Empire mine. That mural represented my family and other Cornish mining families in this town. I don’t understand why we have to change it just to make the town more exciting. I’m sorry it’s a small town that has its roots in mining. If you don’t like that fact don’t come!
