Miner’s descendant

I have just moved recently from Grass Valley to Oregon. I have decided that I need to put in my two cents about this mural by artist John Pugh.

To say the least I am very disappointed in the mural. Yes, he is a wonderful artist, but what does this futuristic looking mural have to do with Grass Valley?

I was upset to see the old mural be painted over. I lived in Grass Valley for 23 years and my family were miners in Empire Mine. That mural was a source of pride for all us descendants of miners. My family has been in Grass Valley since the 1850s. I was really hoping that Grass Valley would again show its pride in its miners of old and have something painted that represented Grass Valley’s history. Or are we supposed to forget that, if not for the miners, Grass Valley would not even be on the map?
