Memo shows county effort to rally around the retreat
Wondering how the top managers of the county government have been spending their time lately? The following memo went out to department heads from Tim Snellings, the county1s director of intergovernmental relations, on Monday. It discusses the county administration1s review with county supervisors the much-discussed $18,000 department head retreat at Foresthill in Placer County last month. We offer the memo without comment.
3** High Priority **
I know that you all are extremely busy, but just a brief reminder that you are requested to attend the Board meeting tomorrow morning at 9:00 am for our discussion and Board adoption of the County1s Vision/Mission/Values/Goals and Objectives.
I would encourage ANY of you who would be willing to come up to the microphone and speak in support of the PROCESS and PRODUCT that we have to do so (please let me know in advance if you can).
FYI, there will be a few more tweaks to the document at the meeting, so if you have the need for any final LITTLE fixes, you have one more shot, please let me know …
After the Board makes their final tweaks and we have a motion AND second to adopt the document, Chair Green will ask me if I have anything to add. At that point, I will turn to all of you and do something like one of THE following (depending on the mood):
1) Say something like, 3This Vision/Mission/Values/Goals and Objectives are not going to be easy to implement. They will require a great deal of innovation, collaboration, and commitment to be successful. At the DH workshop, Dr. Dean asked what are you will to stand for? Well today, we have the answer: If you agree to commit yourself to helping all of us accomplish these for the benefit of our community and employees, please indicate your agreement by rising and saying, 3WE STAND FOR OUR NEVADA COUNTY VISION/MISSION/VALUES/GOALS & OBJECTIVES, BECAUSE WE ARE A MODEL OF GOVERNMENTAL EXCELLENCE².
2) Say something like, 3The process for arriving at where we are today has been critical to our future success. It involved a Board/DH workshop, a DH workshop and some follow up meetings/discussion. We labored, negotiated, etc. over every word on these sheets. Once we were done, as a symbol of our commitment to the vision/mission/values, we would like to unveil these posterboards with our signatures on them.²
3 ?????????????????? AS YOU CAN SEE, I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS/IDEAS????
We1re looking for that fine line of FUN and COMMITMENT. I hope to see you there.nnedy
