Meeting set for Nisenan district

Nevada County residents interested in learning more about the proposed Nisenan Recreation and Park District will have their chance at an informational meeting Sept. 2 at Madelyn Helling Library. The 7 p.m. meeting is meant to help voters understand the measure which will be on the November ballot and to organize support for its passage.

The proposed district would allow for the creation of a recreation and park district for the county area surrounding Grass Valley and Nevada City. It would be similar to the Bear River and Western Gateway recreation and park districts. The district could help develop recreation facilities and programs such as ball fields, hiking trails, and a disc golf course.

In order for the measure to pass in November, voters must not only approve the formation of the district, but also vote to help pay for it. A $25 special tax must be approved by two-thirds of the voters or the district will not be formed.
