Meet Your Neighbor, Keith Overbey
Name: Keith Overbey
Where I live: Grass Valley
How long I’ve lived in Nevada County: Almost two years.
Why I like living here: The community activities and the geographical area is gorgeous. There’s lots of cultural activities and things to do like the fair.
What I do in my spare time: Activities with the Nevada City Lions, wine tasting and I play some golf.
My family: My fiancé, Jan Arbuckle, and Jan’s son, Ryan.
Best friend: Other than Jan, a fellow by the name of Chuck Woodson down in Elk Grove.
Favorite food: I have to say tacos. I’m sitting in the taco booth.
Pets: We have a couple dogs, Scrappy and Brodie.
Job: I’m a special agent with the California Department of Justice supervising a team that investigates elder abuse.
What I like about my job: I like the personal involvement helping the elderly people. At the end of our lives we become dependent on others and I like helping them.
What I would change about my job: Nothing.
The best job I ever had: This one, doing this kind of investigation because of the people we’re able to help.
If I won a million: I would set Ryan up with a photo studio and send my nephew, Wade, to Stanford, which is where he wants to go. My niece Mallory would go to college too. Jan and I would travel on what’s left.
My favorite vacation: Cruises on the Caribbean.
My dream vacation: To go to St. Lucia in the Caribbean with Jan
My greatest accomplishment: I think being with Jan.
If I could relive my life I would: I would have met Jan 15 years earlier.
What I’d change about the world: We seem to have a lot of people on both sides who are extreme in their views. I wish we could get them to use common sense and work things out and not have people set agendas on anyone else.
The most important lessons I’ve learned: Probably just follow the Golden Rule and show people respect.
People who have made the biggest difference in my life: Jan, she got me track. My dad was a very important guy to me.
My hero: My dad.
The best book I’ve read recently: Anything by James Michener.
Favorite TV shows: “The Sopranos” or “Six Feet Under.”
Movie I would recommend: “Farris Buehler’s Day Off.” It doesn’t matter how many times you see it, you still laugh.
What you should know about me: I’m the biggest man in the Nevada City Lions Club, 6 feet, 4 inches and 260, and I enjoy living here.
A secret I’ve never told anyone before now: I’m not going to tell now. It wouldn’t be a secret anymore.
