Meet your neighbor
How long I’ve lived in Nevada County: Four months
Why I like living here: I visited my nephew who lives here and I liked what I saw. I also saw a potential for my business. The people here are nice, too, and the traffic is much better than in the Bay Area.
What I do in my spare time: Head for lakes and rivers. I also work out in martial arts.
My family: I have family here in Grass Valley, in the Bay Area, and in Hawaii. There are five men and lots of grandkids.
Friends: My best friend lives in Redding, and we talk on the phone quite often.
Favorite food: There’s no food I don’t like. I’ve been around the world two times and I’ve never come across food I don’t like.
Pets: Two chickens, Buk Buk and Turkey.
Job: Watch, clock and jewelry repair.
What I like about my job: I love my job – I’ve been doing it for 41 years.
What I would change about my job: I’d have a big store with lots of clocks ticking and one or two employees.
The best job I ever had: I worked on Kwajalein, an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, as a watchmaker for the army. It was absolute paradise. The island is three miles long and half-a-mile wide and there are no cars, all pedalists.
If I won a million: I’d help out my family, especially my mom, whose never had a break in life.
My favorite vacation: I went to the big island of Hawaii and stayed with my dad – it’s a beautiful island.
My dream vacation: I’d have a seaplane, get all of my friends, and spend a couple of days on a bunch of islands.
My greatest accomplishment: My daughter, Danielle, 27, that God gifted me with.
What I’d change about the world: You can’t change the fighting; there will always be fighting. But for just one day there would be peace and everyone would say, “life is good.”
The most important lesson I’ve learned: Never ride a Harley while you are upset.
The people who have made the biggest difference in my life: My brother, Joe, who is a professor of martial arts.
The best book I’ve read recently: I’m a very slow reader so when I do read, I really absorb it. Right now, I’m listening to the tapes of “The Life You Were Born to Live” by Dan Millman.
My personal theme song: Theme from “Blade Runner” by Vangelis.
Favorite TV Show: “M*A*S*H” The scriptwriters were really funny and I was in the military so I know what’s going on.
A movie I’d recommend: “Blade Runner.”
What you should know about me: I love to make people smile and laugh. That’s a reward right there, seeing someone smile. And I try to be fair, and I’d like to fix your watches. (Perry works at Tempus Jewelers in the Bear River Junction center at 10055 Wolf Road, Suite 5.)
