Mayday! Mayday! Mayday!

Before the Far East war begins, let’s settle the local one. Yes, the big battle for survival at Brunswick and Idaho-Maryland.

There are 10 times more vehicles now than several years ago, and the more there are the faster they go. What chance does that poor Banner Mountain resident have as he waits like a rabbit or squirrel to cross the Brunswick speedway? Finally, in desperation he makes a life-threatening dash to miss the speed demons charging down the hills on his left and on his right.

Asking for a traffic light only brings moans and tears by officials in charge, so let’s be economical. A truce in the battle could start with a 35 mile-an-hour speed limit between the airport and Golden Center Freeway.

Just a few cheap road signs supported by generous traffic citations would be a wonderful help toward saving lives at a potential disaster spot, and lessen the agony suffered by our traffic engineers figuring, “what next?”
