Martin knows her stuff

As a student in Mr. Dellis’ AP American Government class at Nevada Union High School, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to listen to presentations given by both candidates in the District 4 supervisor race. Both Robin Sutherland and Izzy Martin gave up time from their busy schedules to teach the class about their campaigns, as well as about politics in general.

As a 17-year-old nonvoting citizen, I feel that I must let the community know how I feel about the candidates, because the decisions that are made in this county affect everyone, even those of us who are not yet old enough to vote.

I was thoroughly impressed with Izzy’s knowledge about the issues and her passion for them. She is intelligent and energetic and has the experience to make good things happen. Izzy understands that a nonvoting citizen is just as vital and important or deserving of her time as a voting counterpart. I never once doubted her intentions or her sincerity.

Robin, on the other hand, was very vague about her intentions and avoided giving clear, definitive answers. I was disappointed by her lack of knowledge regarding local issues, including NH 2020, and her distortion of the facts.

To many of my fellow students and me, it was clear that Izzy knew what she was talking about and Robin did not. There is absolutely no question in my mind about who is right for the job. Please, I encourage you to look at the facts and determine who can best achieve the necessary goals for this incredible community we live in.

My choice would be to re-elect Izzy Martin for supervisor.
