Many responded to fight Nevada City fire

On March 20 at 4:17 a.m. Nevada City Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire in the historic downtown of Nevada City. With heavy smoke and flame visible from the first arriving engine at 419 hours, two minutes after dispatch additional engines were requested. At 15 minutes into the incident five fire engines and one ladder truck were at the scene. Many additional resources were ordered and at the height of the incident we had 25 engines, three ladder trucks, numerous support vehicles, and over 100 people.

We had equipment from every department in Nevada County, and equipment from Placer County and Yuba County. We had support staff from CDF, Grass Valley City, Nevada County, CHP, Red Cross. We had a tremendous support from our community businesses and citizens. A potential disaster was averted by the great support of everybody involved. There was not one injury incurred on the incident. Great job!

I want to personally thank everybody that came to our aid during this major fire on March 20.

Thank you for helping us to help you.

Greg Wasley

fire chief, Nevada City Fire Department
