Man found with 5 leg wounds

When Nevada County Sheriff’s Office investigators attempted to arrest a man and woman at a Nevada City hotel Tuesday, they found the man had been shot in a leg five times.

According to the sheriff’s office, investigators were tipped off about the location of the two, who both were wanted on warrants.

Authorities said they arrived Tuesday morning to find the man had previously been shot.

Steven Evans, 42, was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. According to the sheriff’s office, he said he had been shot a few days earlier and had stayed at the hotel several days.

The woman, Shelbi Volgelsang, 27, was arrested on two warrants for possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia and failing to appear in court.
