Lyford Anniversary

Reid and Betty Lyford of Lake Wildwood recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were married in Danforth Chapel on the campus of the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, Kan., on June 17, 1947.

Mr. Lyford was an instructor in the university’s aeronautical engineering department when he met Betty Parsons, who was a senior in the department of education.

In 1950, the couple moved to Los Angeles, where Mr. Lyford worked for North American Aviation on many airplanes; the company later was known as Rockwell. His final engineering job was on the NASA space shuttle. After the successful flight of the shuttle, Mr. Lyford retired in 1982.

In 1985, Mr. and Mrs. Lyford moved to Lake Wildwood, where they have enjoyed golf, bridge, hiking with the Sierra Seniors and visiting their five children and their spouses: Gordon and Nancy Lyford, of O’Brien, Ore.; Keith and Cindy Lyford, of Roseville; Kirk and Lisa Lyford, of Lake Wildwood; Beth (Lyford) and Bruce Christie, of Claremont; Kathy Lyford, of Inglewood; and four grandchildren.

On June 13, the couple enjoyed a dinner with a few family friends and planned a family reunion for a later date in Shelter Cove, in northern California.
