Low water limits boats at Bullards Bar

Because of the dropping water level at Bullards Bar Reservoir, Cottage Creek Boat Launch will be closed in early September, according to the Tahoe National Forest.

It is uncertain if Cottage Creek Boat Ramp will be operational over Labor Day weekend. The Dark Day Boat Launch will remain open through Labor Day; however, the loading dock will soon be high and dry.

When Cottage Creek Boat Ramp closes, parking is expected to become difficult at Dark Day due to a limited number of spaces. Once the parking sites are full at Dark Day, a boater will need to launch at Dark Day and then drive over to Cottage Creek to park.

They will then need to be picked up by boat at Cottage Creek. Forest Service employees will be stationed at the boat ramp to keep the boat launching as smooth as possible.

The last time the Cottage Creek Boat Ramp was unavailable due to low water level was in the year 2001.
