Locke not the answer

Nevada City Treasurer Niel Locke says City Clerk Cathy Wilcox-Barnes “took” his job, (The Union, May 20). Did she take his job after he was elected eight years ago, or the second time around? Mr. Locke adds, “no one stopped it.” Hmmm, who should have stopped it? Did Locke demand to do the work, or just take the money and run?

I’d like to know how Ms. Wilcox-Barnes “took” his job anyway. Did she draw a six-shooter from behind her desk, or did she sneak up on him in a darkened alley downtown?

Locke admits he didn’t do any part of his job as defined by the California Election Code. However, apparently no problem picking up his monthly check. Eight years X $100.00 mo. = $9,600.00. Shouldn’t Mr. Locke return every penny to the people of Nevada City? Especially since he admits someone else did his job. Now he wants to run in the 11th hour as a write in candidate for the position of City Clerk. Talk about a mockery!

Reasonable folks like the benefit of hearing both sides of a story before drawing conclusions or casting a vote … don’t they?
