Local news no longer seems to be a priority at The Union

I have wanted to write a letter to the editor for quite some time now regarding the news, or should I say the lack thereof, in The Union “news” paper.

I have been a loyal reader of The Union for many years. I remember when “local news” seemed to be a priority of the editors and publishers, but it seems this isn’t the case anymore. I own a “scanner,” and there is so much that goes on in this community that, if printed, may be of interest to the readers of The Union.

Don’t get me wrong – I do enjoy reading the stories about the good kids and the positive things that go along with being able to live in a small town. But news is news, and if The Union is going to call themselves a “newspaper,” then they should be prepared to share the news with the public. Good news, bad news, controversial news, we deserve to hear about it, and it is The Union’s responsibility to report it to us. If they can’t do that, then maybe someone should think about starting up a new “newspaper.”
