Listen to addicts like Mike Ford

I would like to respond to the Other Voices article written by Mike Ford (“Why committees can’t help a meth addict,” Jan. 24).

Thank-you, Mike, for honestly and courageously sharing “the other side of the story.” By clearly understanding both sides of this story, we must acknowledge that there is nothing but sadness and tragedy for both of the families involved. While I continue to keep all those involved in my thoughts and prayers, I will now include Mike Ford, as well as all those who suffer from this awful addiction.

In addition, I challenge both our legal system and our behavioral health department to do all they can for the ever-growing number of hopelessly addicted young people. Obviously our current approach is not working. I believe we should listen to addicts like Mike to help us find a more effective form of treatment and prevention.
