What’s the matter with
white male voters?

“What’s the Matter With White People?” by Joan Walsh is interesting reading, but I would prefer a title like, “What’s the Matter with White Male Voters?”

I do feel qualified and politically correct in asking and answering the question. See, I am a White Male Voter; plus I’m in my 60s, which gives an additional credential.

As a group, we WMV60s placed our bet on another WMV60 in the presidential election. Well, we got our proverbial butts kicked by the non-WMV60s.

For many of us, it’s not fair. Of course, there are many reasons this happened as well as many conspiracy theories rationalizing why this happened.

Our group had done so well previously, although we were younger then. That is except for the 2008 anomaly.

I remember 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004. We were on a roll, until that young guy broke our streak.

His competition, however, was an “old guy” — big mistake.

So, WMV’s, what’s our next step? It’s pretty clear one of ours can’t make it on his own.

It’s also pretty clear we’re not very good at building coalitions, except for a coalition with rich people, and there aren’t very many of them.

So here’s my suggestion. Let’s accept the fact the WMV’s must share political power with women, people of color, gays, youth and seniors. Of course, there will still be a handful of WMV’s who can’t or won’t accept reality.

We can call them Republicans.
