We can do better

Sometime between May 18 and 25, the decorations placed on the plaques by the Blue Star Mothers on the Gold Star Memorial Bridge were taken down and thrown over the fence.

The concert at Western Gateway Park in Penn Valley made no mention of Memorial Day, even though an Airman from Beale AFB sang our national anthem. And during the national anthem, about one-third of the people placed their hand over their heart. Every Memorial Day and Veterans Day, my husband wears a vest with patches to honor those he served with who are no longer with us. One man came up to my husband and said, “Nice outfit.” … Why couldn’t he have said, “Welcome home?”

These events are disrespectful to our fallen and those we have served this country. What are you people thinking? Come on! This community is better than that!
