Thank you, thank you, to the Nevada County Band!

My backyard backs onto Pioneer Park, so I have had the pleasure of hearing, from my own home deck, the Nevada County Band practicing for each of its programs, as well as each of its performances in the shell bandstand in Pioneer Park on the concert day itself.

This band volunteers and performs with the sacrifice of love and talent from each of the musicians, which I so appreciate. This last performance contained some of my all-time California favorites, which I seldom have the chance to hear. What a blessing! I hope you had a chance to hear its last summer program including:

1.) “California Here I Come” (which I learned in elementary school and have loved ever since, but it seems many students no longer learn this tune nor the words to our state song in school nor anywhere else).

2.) “Cielito Lindo, (which I learned in my high school Spanish class in California — still my favorite, and surprisingly still, I can sing along every word in Spanish, despite the many decades since learning it in high school).

3.) And of course the Beach Boys classics (which, when they first came out, helped me realize how influential California culture was, not only locally but all over America).

Thanks to every member of the Nevada County Band for blessing us all in Nevada County with your fantastic free summer concerts!
