Thank you, Morgan Ranch residents

I wanted to thank the good people of Morgan Ranch for hosting Halloween this year. Actually, I’d like to thank them for hosting Halloween every year. It’s been our family tradition since 2006.

On behalf of my family, and all of the other thankful families who live in the far flung parts of Grass Valley and Nevada City (all those places without sidewalks and street lights), please know that your generosity and kindness is not taken for granted. Every Halloween we invade your neighborhood and take up every available parking spot. Sometimes our kids trample your lawns and overwhelm you 15 or 20 deep on your porch all screaming, “trick or treat!” Yet, in six years I have never seen a grumpy face or heard an unkind word from any of the denizens of Morgan Ranch. Instead, we are treated to wonderful smiles and bowls of (expensive) candy all served up with joy and kind words. “What great costumes!” is heard over and over.

In case nobody’s ever told you, let this note be your thanks. Know that we are all happy and grateful to have such wonderful neighbors.

Thanks again for another truly Happy Halloween.

Brendan MacRae
