Sitabai Betts: San Juan Ridge could be adversely impacted by mine

Thank you, Jenny Warden, for the Feb. 28 opinion article about our flourishing economy on the San Juan Ridge.

I am a 30-year member of Ananda Village, which is within the 2-mile perimeter of the proposed mine. As a small intentional spiritual community, Ananda is home to 185 adults, provides 140 full-time-equivalent jobs, has a yoga outreach facility called The Expanding Light that serves over 2,000 guests a year, and is home to the Living Wisdom School for grades pre-K to 12 which serves not only community children but children on the Ridge and boarding students from afar. As you have noted, our very lifestyle and livelihoods on the Ridge are all at risk from the voracious water use of the proposed mine.

Thank you for your efforts to bring this to public attention, for if our San Juan Ridge fails economically due to lack of water it will greatly affect all of Nevada County commerce as a result.

Sitabai Betts, property manangement,

Ananda Village
