Simon Gates: A country divided

Reading Jo Ann Rebane’s column, I was struck by her suggestion that all is driven by anger. Not so. It is disappointment in the country.

Hillary Clinton was not the right candidate so instead we elected an individual who is intelligent, but not smart (a big difference), who is a bully (if you are not liked or disagree you are called names), who appears not to pay taxes due to a several hundred million dollar tax loss carryover (does not sound very successful), who, by actions and words, does not have much respect for women or minorities, and who is lacking in empathy (as evidenced by his minimizing of the Puerto Rico tragedy).

As far as Judge Kavanaugh is concerned, we have no way of knowing whether he did, or did not, do anything unless we were there. It is just as bad to assume innocence as it is to assume guilt. When our country was divided under President Lincoln, he selected a cabinet across party lines because he felt hearing, and compromising based on differing opinions, was in the best interest of the nation.



It is now my party right or wrong. That is not the answer.
