Shirley Porter: Triumph of spirit

Diane S. Davy, thank you for a wonderful Other Voices column on April 30.

As a gardener in Grass Valley for the past 15 years, I too grow roses and love to see the first blossoms in the spring. So your message made me weep for two reasons: first is the incredible story of the totality of the loss of all that you experienced in the Paradise fire, including a beloved cat, and, secondly, the sense of resiliency that both the roses and you have shown in a true triumph of spirit.

Thank You.
