Polly Bacich: Two outstanding women

It was good to see the recognition of Gladys Polhemus and Elsie Sharpe in The Union on March 21. They both made major contributions to this community.

I had the pleasure of working with Gladys in the ’90s on political issues. She was incredibly energetic and positive, politically. In retirement, Elsie Sharpe continued her commitment to public education. She was a force in Nevada County’s division of the California Retired Teachers Association from the day she retired and it is hard to imagine what it will be like without Elsie. To me, she was a role model and someone every teacher — active and retired — should aspire to replicate.

Two outstanding women — it was an honor to know both of them.
