Peter Brost: It’s much more than the stink

I attended two town hall forums to determine the facts regarding the local marijuana issue. I was impressed by the variety of speakers and shocked by their messages.

For several years I have noticed our community gradually declining, and after hearing these speakers I believe I understand why: increasing numbers of growers moving to the area, weapons associated with growers, daily home invasions involving drugs, increased homicides related to drug activity, theft and contamination of our water supply, family and domestic problems related to marijuana and other drugs, and a huge drain on our law enforcement, social services and education resources.

Growing marijuana is not about providing medicine, but it is a health and safety issue.

I applaud Sheriff Royal for educating the community on this topic and organizing the informative meetings. I congratulate the four county supervisors who listened to the public and voted for an outdoor ban, similar to surrounding counties.

Measure W is a quality of life issue. Growers openly advocate bringing the marijuana “industry” (their word) to Nevada County. Do you want that?

Vote Yes on Measure W to retain the ban on outdoor grows while still providing for indoor medicinal grows.
