Our country provides billions in aid around the world

It always depresses me to read diatribes like that of Lorraine Reich (Other Voices, Oct. 2) in which America is labeled as the perpetrator of wars.

Would Ms. Reich have preferred that America did nothing to stop Hitler and, in the name of peace, allowed for the mass killings of even more Jewish people? Today, would Ms. Reich have us allow ISIS to create a caliphate, where these perpetrators of unimaginable evil would gain a safe haven from which to plan attacks on U.S. soil, achieve its goal of wiping Israel from the face of the earth, and yes, kill even more of their fellow Muslims? I have to wonder where her anguish was the day after 9/11!

I suggest that, rather than hand-wringing over the perceived evils of America, Ms. Reich travel to the lands over which she anguishes to provide some firsthand assistance or take whatever funds she uses to promote marches and demonstrations to provide direct aid to those peoples. For examples of generosity, she need only look to the organizations and citizens of this country who provide billions in aid all over the world.
