No excuse for killing an unarmed suspect

While I am a firm supporter of our law enforcement officers, I am very disappointed in their inability to subdue people without shooting them fatally.

I have no problem with a knife-wielding suspect being shot should they attack an officer but it seems to me that shooting them in the knee or leg would subdue them enough for capture.

In the case of the Missouri shooting, unless it is proven that the suspect had a gun, there is no excuse for killing an unarmed suspect when wounding them would suffice. I am fairly sure that all officers are required to do a lot of practice shooting so it would seem that they should be capable of shooting someone that was within 10 or 15 feet in the legs rather than the head or upper body.

I realize that it is easy for someone who has never been faced with this situation to criticize those that have, but, I would like to believe that the last thing any of our law enforcement officers would want to do is kill someone and that is why I’m suggesting this.
