I’m deeply disturbed about recent changes in the U.S. Postal Service (USPS). These changes sabotage mail services right before the Nov. 3 election. The removal and destruction of 671 expensive, valuable mail sorting machines looks suspicious, even criminal, just before a surge of ballots.

Removal of some blue collection boxes began until public outrage stopped it, for now. Mail carrier hours have been cut. Delivery of mail has become much slower and less reliable. Delay is unacceptable when folks need medications, Social Security checks, and mail-in ballots handled quickly.

Could the new Postmaster General DeJoy’s conflicts of interest be relevant? DeJoy has millions of dollars invested in USPS competitors and contractors. He’s donated millions to Trump and Republican candidates and organizations. Trump pressured the USPS board to appoint DeJoy in May. Could the Trump/DeJoy strategy be to demoralize voters, make them distrust both the USPS and election results, sow chaos and create another wedge issue to polarize us? Or is it straight-up corruption? I hope the House Oversight Committee finds answers when they question DeJoy.
