Maxine Palmer: Thanks for highlighting the positive

I enjoy opening The Union in the morning and seeing local businesses and organizations featured on the front page. Not only is it fun to learn about these community leaders, it is a positive way to start the day. These articles leave you with a real sense of community.

Grass Valley and Nevada City have something special and it needs to be front page news. I also enjoy all the articles about historical people and events that shaped these two cities.

I came from a city where the local crime was almost always headline news — even though many positive things were happening. It leaves you with a very different feeling about where you live. We are bombarded with so much national and world news on the Internet and television. The local newspaper needs to highlight positive local events. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job.
