Matt Cate: Kudos to Nevada County Social Services

I’d like to offer my congratulations to the Nevada County Department of Social Services. For the second year in a row the department was recognized by the state of California for its fast and efficient work processing applications for the CalFresh program.

Nevada County processed 99.2 percent of the applications it received within 30 days — an impressive accomplishment — and important, too, because CalFresh is often one of the first social services people access when their financial situation declines. Providing wholesome food to families quickly can help them remain in permanent housing or pay for needed medications. In short, timely access to CalFresh can save money by preventing families from needing other more costly social services.

Congratulations to Nevada County Social Services and the Board of Supervisors for this excellent effort.
