Jodi McDonald: So this is liberalism?

This weekend my husband and I stopped for a red light at Brunswick and Sutton where a group of people were peacefully holding American flags and Pro-Trump signs that read “Make America Great Again.”

Multiple vehicles passed that obviously contained anti-Trump “liberal” occupants who shouted obscenities at the group. Some even responded with a one finger acknowledgement.

I’ve always thought the definition of liberalism was: “A political and social philosophy advocating Individual freedom, representational forms of government, progress and reform and protection of civil liberties.” Apparently I’ve been misinformed regarding the part about “individual freedom and protection of civil liberties.”

This community has developed a double standard that is appalling. Some consider conservatives to be hate mongers. From what I’ve seen around this community recently, that describes many local “liberals.” Why must some people react with such antagonism toward those with a different opinion, political or otherwise.

It’s fine to disagree with ideologies and opinions, that is what made our country great, but to do so with acrimony and bitterness is inexcusable. Some of the pro-Trump group were young girls. It is absurd that they were subjected to such a vulgar display of censure.
