Jim Perkins: Get a locking mail box

I was pleased to see the article regarding mail thefts on the rise (Feb. 4). However, in the list of things that people can do, I was surprised that there was no mention of getting locking mail boxes.

In our small community of Lodestar next to Alta Sierra, we had a rash of mail box thefts, and the post office recommended locking boxes. We spread the word throughout our neighborhood and the mail carrier recently told me that she had seen 11 new locking mailboxes installed in one week.

Locking boxes are relatively inexpensive and can be purchased at hardware stores throughout the community.
