Jenny Wells: Dollar General store a terrible idea for Alta Sierra

I am very disheartened about the proposal to bring a Dollar General to the entrance of Alta Sierra. My family bought the same house in Alta Sierra twice because we missed it and our area so much.

We live five minutes from Alta Sierra’s main entrance and drive this area multiple times daily.

What is the advantage to Alta Sierra for a Dollar General to sit at our main entrance? This would cheapen our neighborhood. It would become our focal point. Why would we want this? Everyone who drives into Nevada County drives past and recognizes Alta Sierra and Highway 49 as the main entrance to a community, whether they are from here or not.

Alta Sierra residents — do you remember the days of our Happy Frog nursery? A local business that cared about beauty and brought life to our area? I would ask our supervisor, Ed Scofield, what advantage this brings to Alta Sierra. Revenue? What? Not for us. Keeping the values of our homes is all the revenue from Alta Sierra I want, or expect, to benefit from.

P.S. We will also lose over 60 beautiful black oaks to pave this project. Please reconsider this terrible idea.
